When giving demos of the technology to the CEO, it often resulted in the VP of Sales getting reprimanded and, in some cases, fired. The reason was that the machine gave a different story than the sales leader was telling.
To sell the solution, we had first to overcome this obstacle because the VP of Sales was often the product Champion. If they got into trouble due to our demo, then the software would not be purchased. Instead, that VP of Sales would downgrade our accuracy and focus on their expertise as the correct path.
This was a challenging situation that could only be resolved through upfront education. Presenting a pre-demo to the VP of Sales first could provide them with time to align our findings with their narrative. Now, instead of being ostracized, they became the hero by presenting the solution to the CEO. It was here that Todd discovered the human factor that so often derails technology.
